COMPOSTING
Thanks to our first customer, The Hampton Inn Salisbury, we are proud to launch Happy Roots Composting Service! This Hilton managed hotel is taking an initiative to reduce food waste, and they hired Happy Roots to help! We pick up their used coffee grounds weekly. The coffee grounds are mixed into our compost bins to make nutrient rich soil for our plants and gardens. This service helps the soil and the plants... AND it deters waste from the landfill.
We pick up an average of 100 pounds of used coffee grounds per week!

RECYCLING
TerraCycle® and BIC have partnered to create a national recycling program for writing instruments and packaging, and Happy Roots has been accepted into the program!
We are now collecting all brands of empty writing instruments (pens, highlighters, mechanical pencils, dry erase markers, etc...) glue sticks, watercolor dispensers, paint sets, and flexible packaging.
Clean out those desks and drawers! You can raise money for school gardens by recycling!
Find one of these special collection bins at your school or office OR start a new collection bin location.

Happy Roots and concerned citizens formed this group in order to acknowledge, address, and help tackle our local litter problem.
Litter is harmful to our water quality, local wildlife, and is damaging to the appearance of our county which effects tourism, the health of our citizens and quality of life in general.
Group posts bring attention to areas in need of cleanup, coordinate litter sweeps, brainstorm ideas, and promote campaigns in order to raise awareness and gift prizes to participants as incentive to get involved in cleaning up Rowan County!
